Package

The packages offered by us are based on a total trip with use of the Hunting Block and return transportation from Bluff and a night in Halfmoon Bay before your departure to the block.

From Bluff you travel by Ferry to Halfmoon Bay on Stewart Island where you get a nights accommodation at the backpackers which is included whether you take advantage of it or not. (You can also choose alternative accommodation at the going rate). Getting to the island the night before helps us get you away early on the day you head to your block otherwise you can not get to the island until 10.30 on the day you travel to your block. by the time we transfer your gear from the Ferry to the Charter Boat you may not get away until 11.30 to your block.

The Charter boat will take you to your Hunting block where you will stay for the next 7 days. The Charter boat will pick you up and return you to Halfmoon Bay where you will catch the Ferry back to Bluff.

You may chose a further night on the island at the backpackers on the return leg is optional and an additional $25.00.

Other options are available such as fishing and diving charters that can be added to the trips if requested. There are also Helicopter options available either from the Island in place of the Charter Boat or directly from Bluff, or even a combination of the two, you need to talk to us about your requirements if you wish to use a Helicopter.

The Sequence of Events for Package

On arrival in Bluff for the start of your trip the Ferry operator will provide you with dedicate gear bins to load your gear into, which will then be lifted directly from the Ferry to the Charter Boat on arrival at Halfmoon Bay. You then empty on arrival at the block meaning you only handle your equipment once.

All bedding is supplied for your night on the island so you only need whatever personal items require. You should carry this on the Ferry rather than put in your gear bins as access to these bins will be difficult once you leave Bluff until you get to the block. On the way home the Charter Boat operator will bring Ferry bins for you to load your gear into for the return trip which will then be lifted on to the Ferry at Halfmoon Bay for the trip back to Bluff. All transport arrangements are managed by us and included in the package. The following diagram is the model we are using.

We have chosen this model to provide quick and effective transport to get you to the block with the least risk of cancellation through weather conditions. The Ferry sailings are rarely cancelled and get you across to the island much quicker and with greater comfort than most other options. Once at the island our blocks are located on the Eastern side of the island, which are largely protected from the most common westerly weather pattern on the island. If weather does disrupt travel arrangements once your on the island you are right on the spot ready to head to your Block at the first opportunity that weather permits.

Additional Equipment such as, outboards and Radio's etc.

You can book outboards with us that can be hired at additional cost to your standard Hunting package. You will be asked about an outboard at the time of getting your quote. Radio's are not currently available from us but ask as we are trying to look at what we can provide in this area going forward.

Gear Bins

When you arrive at the Ferry Terminal in Bluff you will be allocated Gear Bins as shown below to put your equipment in. The number of bins for your party is based on the number in your party and you will be made aware of this when you book.

Overnight Stay at Halfmoon Bay

We now include an overnight stay in Halfmoon Bay prior to departure to the Block at no extra cost. You simply come over the night before on the last Ferry, (or any other Ferry during the day) and we provide you accommodation in the backpackers. You can then head off to the block early in the morning. If you don't wish to come over the night before that is not a problem you can still come over on the day you head to the block but there is no difference in your price. You are welcome to repeat this process on your return from the block and stay in town overnight before you head back for an additional $30.00pp.
